Barry has extensive experience as an employment law specialist. He regularly provides advice on a wide range of employment law topics and appears in Employment Tribunals throughout the country and in the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT). His casework has included acting in complex discrimination claims with multi-claimants and many employment discipline and grievance claims.

Prior to becoming a Member of 7 New Square, Barry was employed as acting Head of Legal Services at EEF North West, an employer’s organisation representing more than 900 member companies where he was responsible for providing employment law advice, advocacy and training. He also spent a period of time working for Eversheds LLP, as a training and development lawyer.

Previously, he was an employed barrister, holding positions including Head of Employment Law and Director of Employment and Training at well known regional solicitors firms.

In addition to his professional career as a barrister, Barry has considerable experience teaching and training. He is a Senior Lecturer in Law on the BVC at Manchester University and an Associate Law Lecturer for the Open University.

Barry is a former elected member of the Bar Council where he sat on the Employed Barristers Committee and the Equality and Diversity Committee. He is registered as a Pupil Supervisor.

He is also a trustee for a major cancer charity in the Northwest.
