Matthew successfully completed his pupillage at 7NSQ part of which was spent working in the legal department of Imperial Innovations, the company responsible for spinning out the intellectual property of Imperial College, where he gained commercial experience in a legal setting
Matthew has gained experience in various different aspects of contentious and non-contentious areas from advising on and drafting contracts, to interlocutory, appellate and trial advocacy, particularly in the following areas of practice:
Commercial & Chancery practice including:
- Contract disputes arising out of business to business transactions;
- Insolvency matters both personal and company related
Intellectual Property and computer law and related fields:
- copyright, registered and unregistered design rights,
- trade marks & passing off,
- confidential information and trade secrets,
- software and the internet matters;
- advertising and e-commerce;
- domain name rights and judicial alternatives to Nominet procedures
Employment matters:
- advising and drafting specialist contracts and compromise agreements;
- advising committees and local authorities on internal procedures;
- dealing with discrimination, unfair and wrongful dismissal and breach of contract cases.
Civil matters:
- debt orders and charging orders;
- possession hearings;
- statutory review
Matthew also has an interest in election law and the drafting and advocacy associated with election petitions.
